Children’s Health Systems Signs Contract with Summit
by Michael Leigeber on September 6, 2006 in Summit NewsBIRMINGHAM/ATHENS — Children’s Health System of Alabama signed a five-year multi-million dollar support contract with Summit Technology of Athens, Ala.
The Information Technology consulting firm, which specializes in PeopleSoft human resources and financials management, hired five former Children’s Hospital employees to join a senior level management team that will completely run and support all of the hospital’s PeopleSoft applications. PeopleSoft, which was acquired by Oracle, provides comprehensive customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning software solutions to many corporations.
“At Children’s Health System, we reached the realization that because human resources, finance and payroll Information Technology applications were not core to our business, we would be much better served outsourcing this Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) work to Summit,” said Doug Dean , CHRO of Children’s Health System in Birmingham. “The power of this move is that we have increased our control over the speed, quality and outcomes – all aimed at greatly accelerating HRIS implementations, which will get us out of the tedium of transactional human resources and into the much more critical strategic work.”
Summit will transfer all of the hospital’s hardware to its world-class hosting center, RenTech, located in Nashville , Tenn. Summit has partnered with RenTech for the past two years in order to provide its clients with a superior and less expensive hosting solution for PeopleSoft’s Human Capital Management and Financial systems.
“Summit only brings in the most highly seasoned Information Technology staff who have managed or implemented innumerable complex PeopleSoft solutions,” Dean said. “The commitment and tenure of Summit to Children’s, as well as to their own employees, bespeaks an organization that has effectively invested in its most valuable resources. We love this partnership.”
Steve Beard, Summit ‘s president and CEO, related the contract’s success and partnership with Children’s Health System to the similar culture of both organizations.
“It is the nature of both Summit Technology and Children’s Health System to focus our attention on our clients,” said Beard. “Both organizations are blessed with staff members who maintain professional attitudes and are committed to complete teamwork.”
Beard said Summit is 100 percent committed to its clients’ success in their core business offerings and will give them the Information Technology support to achieve that.
“We feel we can provide a more efficient offering as well as a solid cost savings to many clients with a similar commitment to their core business offering,” said Beard.
Summit ‘s vice president of sales, Gerald Newsom , is confident that the project will be a success and that Summit will save Children’s Health System a great sum of money over the next five years.
“I love working with the people at Children’s Health System because our organizations seem to mesh well together,” said Newsom. “I know that we will execute this project because our team is composed of some of the best and brightest talents in the PeopleSoft consulting industry.”
The team has just completed a Time and Labor implementation for the Children’s payroll system. Also slated for the coming year is a Benefits Administration implementation as well as additional PeopleSoft e-applications. All of this work will help streamline and gain efficiencies for Children’s human resource operations.
